Traditional carriers’ transport networks are built with vertically integrated devices and vendor proprietary interfaces. This vertically integrated approach causes locking-in to a specific integrated system, which interferes agile development and fast innovations.
Instead of the vertically integrated approach, NTT Communications has started using a disaggregated approach to its transport networks by integrating open multi-vendor components and SDN technology. Currently we are working on developing ODTN(Open Disaggregated Transport Network) project in ONF, and integrating the ODTN solution with open whitebox packet transponder 'Cassini' which is provided from TIP OOPT(Open Optical & Packet Transport) project.
This presentation covers topics as follows our expectations for disaggregated transport networks with ODTN introduction of TIP OOPT project and Cassini device including their technical details implementation inside ODTN for TIP Cassini integration the evaluation result.
