The presentation is an overview of the Open and Disaggregated Transport Network project (ODTN). ODTN’s goal is to open the optical transport network for choice and innovation by disaggregating it’s hardware components and providing open software that can control multi-vendor, multi-protocol devices and platforms. ODTN aims to deliver a number of benefits to the operator’s metro and core optical networks such as cost reduction, absence of vendor lock-in, flexibility and faster time to deployment of new features and solutions. The presentation will go over the background for the project, results of the first phase with disaggregation in the transponders and Open line System, showcasing technical choices and architecture. Faced challenges and solutions taken will be presented. Focus will also be placed on next steps and challenges ahead to further enhance the project, it’s scope and deployments.
